The European Union has slammed Israel’s plan to construct five new settlements in the occupied West Bank and thousands of new housing units, which will eat up thousands dunums of Palestinian lands.
The European Union deemed this annexation and Israel’s legislative plan as “a serious violation of international law” that “exacerbates confrontations and uprising.
The Israeli illegal construction of settlement stands hindered in the discussions of efforts to achieve a two-state solution between Palestinains and Israelis, UN revealed.
“The EU firmly condemns policies of dispossession in the occupied West Bank and other settlement activity,” the EU’s top diplomat, Josep Borrell, said on X, adding that “Efforts aiming at de facto annexation must stop, unilateral changes will not be recognised.”
Associated Press reported late Wednesday that Israeli authorities have approved 12.7 square kilometre land seizure in the occupied West Bank, called the largest land seizure in three decades by monitoring group Peace Now.
The Israeli agency handling land affairs for the occupied territories declared the land in the Jordan Valley “state property” in June, according to a declaration obtained by AFP on Wednesday.
The land seizure, which was approved late last month but only publicized on Wednesday, comes after the seizure of 8 square kilometers (roughly 3 square miles) of land in the West Bank in March and 2.6 square kilometers (1 square mile) in February.
