Ghaith Yamin, 16, was shot in the head by Israeli forces in Nablus in the early hours of Wednesday, according to the Office of the European Union Representative for the West Bank and Gaza.
Yamin was shot in the head during clashes between Israeli forces and Palestinians at the site of Joseph’s Tomb in Nablus’ eastern district. Under the cover of Israeli soldiers, Israeli settlers frequently break into the site.
“Saddened by the death of 16 years old Ghaith Yameen after being wounded by ISF [Israeli security forces] gunshot to the head as well as by the injury of 88 Palestinians, including Red Crescent staff, by ISF during violent confrontations in Nablus last night.”
The Palestinian Authority (PA) issued a statement calling on the international community “to break double standards and provide protection for our children and our people from the killing machine that kills them daily.”
The Palestinian Education Ministry says the teenager was a student in the tenth grade.
Israeli forces have raided Palestinian towns and villages in the occupied West Bank on a near-daily basis in 2022, conducting thousands of arrests, wounding hundreds, and killing dozens.
Ghaith is one of at least 13 other children who have died due to Israeli attacks since 2022.
2/2 Children must be protected under all circumstances. This incident must be investigated and full accountability ensured.
