Days of Palestine (DOP) hosted a compelling dialogue session on July 23rd. The focus centered on the pivotal role of media coverage in reinforcing the Palestinian narrative and reaching out to international audiences.
Lubna Masarwa, a distinguished Palestinian journalist associated with “Middle East Eye,” took center stage during the session. Her insightful remarks emphasized the urgency of enriching Palestinian content to swiftly resonate with Western communities.
Masarwa passionately advocated for sharing human stories and compelling narratives alongside well-researched facts. By doing so, she envisioned capturing the attention of diverse societies and expanding the outreach of Palestinian media content.
During her address, she also highlighted the formidable challenge posed by Israel, as it meticulously promoted its distorted narrative over the years, creating an obstacle for Palestinian media endeavors.
In addition, Masarwa cautioned against intertwining the Palestinian cause with issues of race or religion, specifically in relation to antisemitism. She articulated the need to separate the condemnation of Israeli occupation and Zionism from the rights of Jewish individuals as a religious community.
Masarwa concluded by emphasizing the power of Palestinian youth, particularly English speakers, in reshaping the international perspective on their cause through a unified and targeted media approach, directed towards Western societies.
Mutee’ Musabeh, the director of Days of Palestine echoed Masawra’s sentiments. He stressed the critical importance of devising a comprehensive media strategy and encouraging Palestinian youth to expose Israeli crimes, refute Israeli falsehoods, and employ precise media and legal terminologies in championing their cause on the global stage.
