Lebanon’s Health Minister, Firas Al-Abyad, announced on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, that the death toll from Israeli airstrikes has surged to 558, with an additional 1,835 people injured.
Among the dead are 50 children and 94 women, highlighting the heavy civilian toll as the attacks intensify.
Al-Abyad also confirmed that the airstrikes targeted two ambulances, a fire truck, and a medical center. Numerous homes and infrastructure were destroyed, while several vehicles were set ablaze.
In addition, thousands of families have been displaced as the relentless attacks continue to ravage the country.
Israeli forces resumed air raids early Tuesday, striking several towns across Lebanon, including Beit Lif, Shaheen, Jabal Balat, Majdal Zoun, Yuhmur, Arabsalim, Mahmoudiya, Sadiqeen, and Al-Sultaniya.
The offensive also targeted the region between Marjayoun and Jezzine in southern Lebanon, as well as the towns of Maqneh and Nabi Sheeth in the Bekaa Valley.
The strikes extended to the outskirts of Tyre and the Mahmoudiya area in southern Lebanon, along with the town of Mashghara in western Bekaa.
The widespread bombardment has caused widespread panic, prompting thousands of residents to flee their homes in search of safety.
As the violence escalates, Beirut’s Rafic Hariri International Airport has canceled over 30 flights on Tuesday alone, with international airlines suspending operations to and from the region.
In retaliation, Hezbollah claimed responsibility for launching three consecutive rocket attacks on Israel’s Megiddo military airport near the city of Afula. The group said it used “Fadi 1” and “Fadi 2” missiles in the strikes.
Hezbollah also announced it had struck an explosives factory in the Zikhron area, located 60 kilometers from the Lebanese border, as well as the Amos base, a key logistical hub for Israel’s northern military operations.
Additionally, Hezbollah targeted Ramat David Airbase, southeast of Haifa, one of Israel’s three primary airbases and a strategic military location near the Lebanon-Israel confrontation lines.
