DaysofPal- The Civil Defense in Gaza reported that the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) have destroyed more than 1,500 residential buildings in Al-Zaytoun neighborhood in Gaza City.
Mahmoud Basal, spokesperson for Gaza’s Civil Defense, said that the southern part of Al-Zaytoun neighborhood has been leveled to the ground, with 80% of its residents displaced by the ongoing Israeli bombardment, while Jabalia in the northern Gaza Strip is experiencing continuous Israeli air raids, shelling, and explosions by robots amid a new wave of displacement.
In a press statement on Wednesday, Basal noted that the IOF has destroyed more than 1,500 residential homes in Al-Zaytoun, southeast of Gaza City, since the beginning of August.
Basal explained that Jabalia, in the north of the Strip, is facing similar conditions under Israeli bombardment and explosions, stressing that the southern part of Al-Zaytoun has been “razed to the ground with no building left standing.”
“The scene in Jabalia is no less brutal than in Al-Zaytoun, as the Israeli occupation continues artillery shelling, airstrikes, and robot detonations without any ground advancement of military vehicles.” He continued
He confirmed that “the Israeli occupation forces are using excavators and heavy machinery along with explosive-laden robots at a rate of seven detonations per day, in addition to drones of the quad-copter type that drop explosives onto rooftops, which has multiplied the scale of destruction.”
He added that “about 80% of the neighborhood’s residents have been displaced to the western or northern parts of Gaza City.”
Since the beginning of August, the Israeli occupation forces have been waging a large-scale offensive on Al-Zaytoun neighborhood, involving the demolition of homes using booby-trapped robots, artillery bombardment, random gunfire, and forced displacement, as part of an Israeli plan to reoccupy what remains of the Gaza Strip.
With U.S. backing, the Israeli occupation has been committing genocide in Gaza since October 7, 2023, carrying out killings, starvation, destruction, and forced displacement, ignoring all international appeals and orders from the International Court of Justice to stop.
The genocide has left 62,895 Palestinians martyred, 158,927 wounded—mostly children and women—over 9,000 missing, hundreds of thousands displaced, and a famine that has claimed 313 lives, including 119 children as of Wednesday.
