Geng Shuang, China’s deputy permanent representative to the United Nations, implored the Israeli occupation to stop seizing Palestinian land and resources.
Geng implored the Israeli occupation to immediately cease their activities and refrain from taking any Palestinian land or resources during his address to the Security Council about the Middle East, including the Palestinian issue.
The ambassador emphasized that the illegal growth of Israeli settlements on occupied Palestinian lands must be ended immediately.
He stated that Israeli activity which results in the establishment of settlements is in breach of international law and the Security Council Resolution 2334.
He added that, since the start of the year, the Israeli occupation has continued to take unilateral measures such as authorizing displacement of peoples, the erection of new settlements, and the legitimizing of prior settlements.
Geng emphasized that the historical position of the sacred religious places in Jerusalem must be respected and retained.
On May 21, Itamar Ben-Gvir, the Israeli National Security Minister, stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque and stirred up more tensions.
Geng insisted that Israel must desist from any provocation regarding religious holy sites, ensure Muslim worshipers’ freedom to worship, keep the sanctity and calmness of such sites in check, and venerate Jordan’s authority in preserving them.
Since the start of 2023, Israeli occupation forces killed more than 100 Palestinians, including children and women.
Geng added that the condition for Palestinian refugees should be improved and the economy and resources of Palestine should be met.
He further urged for the lifting of the blockade on Gaza without delay. He also emphasized that people and materials used for the reconstruction of Gaza should be allowed to come and go freely.
The Chinese envoy to the UN highlighted the necessity of preserving the traditional standing of religious sanctuaries, ceasing the development of Israeli settlements, and following international humanitarian regulations in order to avoid future flare-ups.
Geng stressed that China will remain dedicated to providing the Palestinian people with assistance in order to reclaim the legitimate rights they deserve, in addition to supporting the founding of an independent Palestinian state.
