After three days of the Israeli assault over the overly, populated and besieged coastal enclave, a cease-fire between the resistance in Gaza and the Israeli occupation entered into force at 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, with Egyptian mediation.
The ceasefire statement stated: “Within the framework of Egypt’s keenness to end the current state of tension in the Gaza Strip, Egypt has intensified its contacts with all parties to contain the current escalation, and in light of those contacts, Egypt calls for a comprehensive and mutual ceasefire, starting at 11:30 a.m. 7/8/2022”.
The statement added, “Egypt is making efforts and is committed to working to release the prisoner Khalil Awawda and transfer him to treatment, as well as working to release the prisoner Bassam Al-Saadi as soon as possible.”
Last Friday, the Israeli occupation army announced the launch of a military operation against the Gaza Strip in the name of “The Truthful Dawn” targeting Islamic Jihad sites in the Strip without any prior military initiation of confrontation on the Islamic jihad part.
The military operation announced by the Israeli army against the Gaza Strip was premiditated as it was preceded by raising the state of alert in the Gaza neighboring setlments, and the closing roads and crossings to these settlements, under the pretext of “fearing the Islamic Jihad movement’s response” to the arrest of Sheikh Bassam al-Saadi from Jenin who was kidnaped by the Israeli occupation forces from his house a week ago, on Monday, August 1st.
As a result of the Israeli aggression on Gaza, 43 martyrs, including 15 children and 4 women, have been killed, and 311 Palestinians have been wounded since the beginning of the aggression on the Strip which started on Friday afternoon.
