Catholic Churches called Saturday, July 29, 2023, to stop persecuting Christians and attacking their sanctities across occupied Palestine by zionist forces and Israeli settlers, in light of the escalation of violations in recent months, especially in occupied Jerusalem.
The Council of Heads of Catholic Churches in the Holy Land indicated that the Israeli attacks have expanded in recent months, “targeting Christian clergy and Christian sanctities in Haifa and Jerusalem.”
The council added that these attacks include spitting on clerics, verbal or physical assault on people, sabotage of sanctities, and offensive writings on walls.
It pointed out that the perpetrators are not held accountable and punished by the Israeli occupation government.
“Christians are angry and amazed at how the Israeli authorities responsible for enforcing the law, which can bring the criminal when the victim is Jewish, even if the assault was minor, are unable to stop these – Israeli settlers’ – attacks on Christians and Christian sanctities,” It stated.
It pointed out that extremist Israeli colonizers attacked, under Israeli forces’ protection, the monastery of the “Virgin Mary” in Haifa, known as the “Monastery of Stella Maris” or the Star of the Sea, at the top of Mount Carmel.
