DayofPal—Members of the Park Slope Food Coop in Brooklyn have voted to remove nine Israeli products from its shelves, including personal care items from the brand ecoLove, following calls linked to a boycott campaign in support of Palestinians.
The measure passed with 67% of participating members voting in favor.
Founded in 1973, the Park Slope Food Coop is one of the oldest and largest food cooperatives in the United States, with around 17,000 members.
It operates on a membership-based model where shoppers are also required to work in the store, giving its internal decisions notable symbolic weight.
ecoLove’s founder, Sharona Romano Lazar, criticized the decision, describing the boycott campaign as political targeting of an Israeli brand.
The company, established in 2011, produces hair and body care products sold in hundreds of stores across the United States.
In a related context, activists in Italy have launched a campaign calling on authorities to cut ties with Teva Pharmaceutical Industries, collecting around 11,000 signatures in support of restricting public contracts with the company.
The campaign, based on a study by the BDS movement in Emilia-Romagna, argues that public procurement policies should exclude companies connected to human rights violations, revealing that Teva received Israeli government contracts worth approximately €115 million between 2015 and 2025.
Teva, Israel’s largest pharmaceutical company and one of the world’s leading producers of generic medicines, was founded in 1901 and is headquartered in Tel Aviv.
Activists say the company benefits from Israel’s economy and infrastructure, which they said is tied to settlement expansion and occupation policies.
