DaysofPal- A wave of international reactions poured in on Friday, welcoming Hamas’s response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s peace proposal to end the ongoing Israeli genocidal war in Gaza, with many world leaders urging all sides to seize the opportunity for a lasting ceasefire and to facilitate humanitarian aid to the besieged enclave.
In a statement released Friday, Hamas confirmed its approval of Trump’s plan to end the Israeli genocide in Gaza and expressed readiness to enter mediated negotiations to discuss implementation details.
Hamas reiterated its willingness to release all Israeli captives, living and deceased, and to hand over Gaza’s administration to an independent Palestinian technocratic body, backed by national consensus and Arab-Islamic support.
President Donald Trump welcomed Hamas’s response, calling it “a very special and perhaps unprecedented day,” and said he looks forward to the safe return of all captives to their families.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry, in a statement late Friday, described Hamas’s position as “a positive step that can be built upon to achieve calm and pave the way for a comprehensive political settlement.”
Cairo emphasized the need for all parties to uphold their responsibilities, particularly by maintaining the ceasefire, enabling humanitarian access, and launching negotiations to ensure the return of displaced Palestinians and the reconstruction of Gaza.
Qatar also welcomed Hamas’s announcement, expressing support for Trump’s call for an immediate ceasefire to ensure the safe and swift release of captives and to end the ongoing bloodshed in Gaza.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan hailed Hamas’s response as “a constructive and significant step toward lasting peace,” urging the Israeli occupation to immediately halt its attacks and comply with the ceasefire plan.
Erdogan underscored the urgent need to deliver humanitarian aid and end the Israeli genocide that wounds the conscience of humanity.
He reaffirmed Turkey’s commitment to pursuing a two-state solution.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz wrote on X that Hamas’s decision offered “the best chance for peace” after nearly two years of war, adding that “the captives must be freed, the fighting must stop immediately, and Hamas must disarm.”
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said reaching a ceasefire that leads to the release of captives “must now be everyone’s top priority.”
UN Secretary-General António Guterres also welcomed Hamas’s response, urging all sides to seize this opportunity to bring the war in Gaza to an end.
From Ireland, Prime Minister Michael Martin expressed hope that Hamas’s announcement would pave the way for a ceasefire and increased humanitarian access, while Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese commended progress on Trump’s plan, pledging continued support for a just and sustainable two-state solution.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney likewise praised Hamas’s “commitment to relinquishing power and releasing all captives, urging all sides to honor their commitments and advance peace and stability in the region.
The coordinated global reactions mark the broadest international endorsement yet of a negotiated end to the devastating Israeli genocidal war that has ravaged Gaza for nearly two years.
