Days of Palestine – Bethlehem
Israeli occupation forces (IOF) killed on Tuesday night a Palestinian child in Bethlehem in the occupied West Bank, local sources reported.
They said that the IOF shot the child, Mohamad Salah, and left him bleeding to death preventing medics to help him.
Sources confirmed that the child Salah is from Al-Khadir village, in southern Bethlehem.
Israeli occupation continues to abuse and violate children’s rights in occupied Palestine and committed crimes against humanity by killing, assaulting, and arresting them, which is prohibited under international law.
Yesterday, IOF brutally beat the boy, Muhammad al-Ajlouni, who has Down’s syndrome which led to his transfer to the hospital in the Shiekh Jarrah neighborhood.
The Defence for Children International reported that the year 2021 is the deadliest year for Palestinian children since the 2014 Israeli aggression.
They said that 86 Palestinian children have been killed in the Occupied Palestinian Territory since January making 2021 the deadliest year on record for Palestinian children since 2014.
“IOF killed 76 Palestinian children, including 61 Palestinian children in the Gaza Strip and 15 Palestinian children in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem. Armed Israeli civilians killed two Palestinian children in the West Bank,” the watchdog stated.
They added that Israeli forces killed 60 Palestinian children during Israel’s military assault on the Gaza Strip in May 2021 as well.
International humanitarian law prohibits indiscriminate and disproportionate attacks and requires to distinguish between military targets, civilians, and civilian objects.
Israel as the occupying power in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including the Gaza Strip, is required to protect the Palestinian civilian population from violence.
