DaysofPal – On December 10, 2025, the world observes International Human Rights Day, which honors the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This year’s theme is “Human Rights: The Foundation of Dignity in Our Daily Lives.” The state of affairs in the occupied Palestinian territory contrasts sharply with the values being honored.
Rights organizations say Palestinians continue to be deprived of the most basic rights guaranteed under the Declaration, including the rights to life, self-determination, adequate living conditions, healthcare, and education. Detainees, they add, face severe violations ranging from torture to degrading treatment.
Israeli forces continue to carry out air, land, and sea operations across the Gaza Strip, striking homes, civilian areas, and the tents of displaced families. Field data indicates that Israeli troops now maintain military control over more than 53% of Gaza’s territory, while shooting incidents and incursions into residential neighborhoods continue.
Human rights monitors report that since the ceasefire formally came into effect, Israeli attacks have killed 386 Palestinians and injured 980 others. Freedom of movement also remains heavily restricted, especially for the sick and wounded.
Over 15,000 patients require travel for essential treatment, while the healthcare system faces critical shortages, with drug stocks at 55% and medical supplies at 71% depletion.
An Unprecedented Humanitarian Crisis
Life in Gaza continues to deteriorate amid severe restrictions on the entry of goods. An average of 171 trucks enter Gaza daily, far below the 600-truck average before the war, while key supplies such as food, medicines, fuel, and shelter materials are still blocked.
Displacement is widespread and becoming increasingly dangerous. Tens of thousands of families lack proper shelter, and around 288,000 families face life-threatening conditions as winter storms intensify and thousands of tents flood.
Israel’s military operations have led to extensive destruction of industrial and agricultural facilities, as well as historical and cultural sites. The worsening hunger crisis has already resulted in 457 deaths, most of them children, women, and the elderly.
The educational sector has been devastated for the third consecutive year, with schools, universities, and kindergartens severely damaged or destroyed. The collapse of the education system has caused a dramatic decline in students’ academic progress and halted research activity across the Strip.
Calls for Immediate International Intervention
The Al Mezan Center for Human Rights said the situation amounts to a “war of genocide,” in clear violation of international humanitarian law and human rights principles.
The group pointed to Israel’s continued disregard for the ceasefire terms and for rulings issued by the International Court of Justice, the International Criminal Court, the UN Security Council, and the UN General Assembly.
Al Mezan urged the international community to act immediately to end the genocide, ensure the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, allow patients and wounded individuals to travel freely, and facilitate the entry of sufficient humanitarian and medical aid.
It also called for accountability mechanisms to end the cycle of impunity by pursuing those responsible for crimes against Palestinian civilians.
The center further appealed to people around the world to intensify solidarity efforts and pressure their governments to uphold their legal and moral responsibilities to stop the killing and end the occupation.
