The General Secretariat of the League of Arab States condemned on Thursday, August, 18th the blatant attack perpetrated by the Israeli occupation forces, today, Thursday, against seven human rights and civil institutions in Ramallah.
The Assistant Secretary-General for Palestine and the occupied Arab territories of the Arab League, Saeed Abu Ali, said in a press statement that the occupation’s destruction of the contents of these institutions, seizing of their documents, and closing of their doors comes within the framework of the ongoing Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people, their children, rights, land and holy sites.
He added that this targeting and the continuous Israeli attempts come to silence the voice of truth and to obscure the horrific crimes that the Israeli occupation commits on a daily basis. This calls for accountability and criminal prosecution before international justice bodies.
The General Secretariat called on Arab and international civil society organizations to condemn and expose these Israeli policies and attacks, and the blatant assault on the seven Palestinian human rights institutions today, and to take all necessary and urgent measures to fend off the Israeli attacks.
The Assistant Secretary-General also called on the Human Rights Council and the Security Council to assume their responsibilities in providing the necessary and effective protection approved by international legitimacy in Palestine on the path to ending the Israeli occupation and empowering the Palestinian people by providing their inalienable right to freedom and independence.
The Israeli-held rampage against the Palestinian NGOs comes only six days after Al-Haq released a press statement of organizations that extend their full support and pledge their ongoing cooperation with the UN Commission of Inquiry on Palestine, which has been under mounting attack, led by Israel, including recent smearing of its work and members as antisemitic, and calls for its disbandment. Civil Society Organizations Stand with the Commission of Inquiry against Rising Attacks.
