The General Secretariat of the Arab League urged the United Nations Security Council on Monday, May 5, 2023, to fulfill its responsibilities, enforce its resolutions, and carry out its duties in maintaining international peace and security.
The Arab League demanded that Israel end its occupation and completely withdraw from all Palestinian territories occupied since June 5, 1967.
They also argued to provide international protection for the Palestinian people.
On the occasion of the 56th anniversary of the Naksa (setback), the General Secretariat called on the international community to hold Israeli officials accountable for all crimes committed against the Palestinian people.
They also emphasized the need to realize an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The General Secretariat called on the countries that have not yet recognized the state of Palestine to take this step, as it would enhance the prospects of achieving peace based on the two-state solution and ending the Israeli occupation.
The General Secretariat stated, “Despite more than five decades since the Naksa and the long record of occupation’s crimes and its schemes to impose facts on the ground by force, this does not and will not change the fact that the Palestinian and Arab territories seized by Israel since 1967 are occupied lands according to international law and relevant international resolutions.”
