DaysofPal- Amnesty International has issued a stark warning that Gaza City, a historic center with a heritage stretching back thousands of years, is now at risk of total destruction, following the Israeli military’s latest evacuation order affecting nearly one million residents.
As Israeli forces advance deeper into Gaza’s main urban hub, the human rights organization condemned what it described as a forced mass displacement, highlighting the devastating humanitarian and cultural consequences of the ongoing offensive.
“Gaza City, which has an ancient heritage that dates back millennia and has already suffered devastating destruction and damage, is now facing complete obliteration,” said Heba Morayef, Amnesty’s Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa.
Morayef accused Israel of waging a campaign aimed at the physical destruction of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. She also condemned the continued supply of weapons and diplomatic support from states with influence over Israel.
“It is unconscionable that states with leverage over Israel continue to provide it with arms and diplomatic support to destroy Palestinian lives,” she said.
Amnesty further warned that companies and investors profiting from the war effort may be complicit in international crimes.
“Deplorably, companies and investors continue to profit from Israel’s genocide. States and companies that continue to arm Israel risk complicity in genocide,” Morayef added.
“All those with influence over Israel must press for an immediate end to Israel’s genocidal campaign and full humanitarian access to Gaza’s civilians.”
Cultural Erasure and Humanitarian Crisis
Gaza City, one of the oldest continuously inhabited urban areas in the world, has witnessed immense cultural loss throughout the nearly year-long military campaign. Archaeological sites, ancient markets, religious landmarks, and civilian infrastructure have been reduced to rubble.
Rights groups and humanitarian agencies have raised repeated alarms over the worsening conditions in Gaza, where food, water, medical supplies, and shelter are critically scarce. The mass displacement order—described by observers as one of the largest in modern history—has pushed the enclave further into a state of humanitarian catastrophe.
Amnesty International reiterated its call for the international community to act urgently, not only to halt the violence but to ensure accountability for alleged war crimes and restore humanitarian protections under international law.
