Al-Jazeera Investigative Program Reveals Details on Shireen Abu Akleh’s Murder

A new episode by Al-Jazeera investigative program “The Hidden is More Immense” revealed new details on the murder of the journalist Shireen Abu Akleh who was shot dead by Israeli troops in May 2022.

The episode, displayed on Friday, May 19, revealed that former Israeli army general Benny Gantz admitted that Israel bears full responsibility for the killing of Abu Akleh.

The investigation confirmed that Gantz told his American counterparts that the killing of Abu Aqelah was a mistake, but that Israel would not admit or officially announce it.

The investigation displayed exclusive interviews with American expert Stephen Buck, who analyzed the video and audio clips of Abu Akleh’s murder.

Stephen said that acoustic analysis of the bullet that hit Shireen settled the argument about its origin, confirming that it was fired only 200 meters from the Israeli forces’ side.

The program producer conducted interviews with several international investigators who interviewed a number of investigators who worked on the murder cases of a number of journalists who were killed by the Israeli occupation forces.

The episode also displayed documents that uncovered Israel’s systematic policy of impunity when killing Palestinian journalists.

Al-Jazeera said that this episode came on the first anniversary of Israel’s killing of the Palestinian-American journalist Shireen Abu Akleh in the occupied West Bank.

51-year-old Palestinian-American Journalist Shireen A bu Akleh was covering an Israeli military raid in Jenin in the occupied West Bank when an Israeli sniper fatally shot her in the head despite clearly wearing a press vest and helmet.
