DaysofPal – Hamas political bureau member Suhail Al-Hindi rejected recent remarks by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu threatening to disarm the movement in Gaza “by easy or hard means,” stressing that resistance weapons are inseparably linked to the continuation of Israeli occupation and represent a collective national Palestinian decision.

Al-Hindi’s comments followed Netanyahu’s statements at a press conference on Tuesday, where he said that Israel’s current priority is the complete disarmament of Hamas across the Gaza Strip and vowed to pursue this objective through any method.

Speaking in an interview with Al Jazeera Mubasher, Al-Hindi said he followed part of Netanyahu’s speech and described it as part of a “misleading narrative” that attempts to portray the Israeli army as moral and humanitarian, an image he said has no connection to reality.

He emphasized that the issue of weapons cannot be separated from the reality of occupation, arguing that arms are a fundamentally national matter. According to Al-Hindi, the decision to maintain resistance weapons was taken collectively by Palestinian factions and the wider Palestinian public, and the continued presence of occupation on Palestinian land necessitates the continuation of resistance.

Al-Hindi added that whatever weapons remain, if any, fall under the category of personal defensive arms. He explained that these are not offensive weapons but tools for self-defense, noting that such arms are present in nearly every household, particularly given Gaza’s ongoing suffering from criminal gangs that he said were created under occupation conditions.

In a related context, Al-Hindi affirmed Hamas’s full commitment to the understandings reached with mediators. He referred to the handover of the final body of Israeli soldier Ran Gweili and said information is provided as soon as it becomes available. He stressed that the resistance does not take pride in holding bodies, recalling that it has handed over 20 soldiers and officers alive, along with 28 bodies to date, in an effort to close this file from the outset.

At the same time, Al-Hindi accused Israel of failing to adhere to the terms of the agreement. He pointed to continued killings, the closure of crossings, and non-compliance with the humanitarian protocol. He said that since the agreement was signed, 503 people have been killed and more than 325 injured, which he described as ongoing violations of the understandings reached.

Al-Hindi emphasized that the resistance’s adherence to agreements shouldn’t be seen as a sign of weakness. He said the Palestinian people would not “raise the white flag,” adding that they refuse submission and will not yield to this criminal enemy.
