The Israeli occupation court in Beersheba sentenced, on Tuesday, August 30th, 2022, the prisoner, Muhammad Al-Halabi, from the Gaza Strip, to 12 years in prison, after 172 court sessions.
The Israeli occupation forces arrested the prisoner Al-Halabi on June 15, 2016, at the Erez checkpoint in the northern Gaza Strip, and subjected him to harsh interrogation along with physical and psychological torture, which lasted for 52 days. as a result of the torture, he was subjected to he lost 50% of his hearing due to torture.
It is noteworthy that Al-Assir Al-Halabi was the director of the “World Vision” Foundation, and was recently awarded an honorary doctorate from an academic institution in Germany, for his humanitarian work.
Al-Halabi is a husband and a father of five children. Several international bodies have called for his release, including the former Special Rapporteur for Human Rights Michael Lynk, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, in addition to parliamentarians from Australia and Canada.
