DayofPal– The 38th African Union Summit concluded Sunday in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, with African leaders reaffirming their firm and unified stance on the Palestinian cause.
The summit, which brought together heads of state and government from across the continent, issued a final communiqué condemning Israeli military atrocities in Gaza and calling for an end to all forms of cooperation or normalization with Israel.
In a strongly worded statement, African leaders “Vehemently condemned the Israeli war and brutal aggression on Gaza”, denouncing what they described as systematic violations of international law, targeted attacks on civilians, and destruction of Palestinian infrastructure.
The communiqué accused Israel of committing acts of genocide against the Palestinian people and emphasized the urgent need for international prosecution of its ongoing violations.
Leaders also urged an immediate cessation of all ties with Israel until it ends its occupation and aggression against Palestine.
The summit, which began on Saturday, saw a significant turnout of African leaders alongside Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, who attended as a special guest.
In his address, Abbas provided a sobering overview of the current situation in Palestine, calling for stronger international intervention to end Israeli atrocities.
As the summit drew to a close, it was clear that Africa’s leadership remains steadfast in its support for Palestinian rights, sending a powerful message to the international community about the continent’s commitment to justice and self-determination.
