Prisoner advocacy groups on Sunday 17 April 2022 called on the international community to work seriously to pressure the Israeli occupation forces to stop arbitrary arrest campaigns and violations against Palestinian prisoners.
In a joint statement issued by the Ministry of Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners, Hashd, Hemaya Center for Human Rights, and the International Foundation for Solidarity with Prisoners on the occasion of Palestinian Prisoner’s Day, the groups added that the occupation forces, deliberately follow coercive policies against Palestinian prisoners, as these policies are considered grave violations of the Fourth Geneva Convention of 1949, the First Additional Protocol of 1977, and a set of international conventions.
They condemned the occupation’s policies and the physical violations that Palestinian prisoners are subjected to, calling for the need to provide protection for Palestinian civilian prisoners and ensure that they enjoy their rights, and provide them with basic needs, including food, housing, and medical care.
They called on the international community to assume their moral, legal and humanitarian responsibilities towards the prisoners held in the occupation jails, and to send delegates urgently to visit them and closely look at the extent of the crimes they are exposed to.
