DaysofPal – Despite months of relentless Israeli attacks and severe shortages of medicine and medical supplies, Gaza’s health system continues to operate at maximum capacity, treating hundreds of thousands of patients while warning that its ability to sustain services is rapidly diminishing.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Gaza Ministry of Health reported record operational figures for hospitals and medical centers during the first half of 2026, highlighting the extraordinary pressure placed on the territory’s already devastated healthcare system.
The ministry said that 997,844 patients have been received in emergency departments and 826,060 outpatient visits have been recorded from January to June. During the same period, hospitals admitted 111,378 patients, with facilities continuing to function beyond their designed capacity to ensure essential medical services remain available.
Medical teams carried out 57,112 complex and emergency surgeries, reflecting the high volume of trauma and critical cases. Doctors also performed 760 life-saving cardiac catheterization procedures, while blood banks supplied 32,186 units of blood to support emergency operations and treat patients suffering from severe bleeding.
The ministry added that healthcare workers also provided 47,629 dialysis sessions for 3,912 patients with kidney failure. Mental health clinics treated approximately 45,000 patients, while rehabilitation services delivered 73,000 physiotherapy sessions for people recovering from injuries and disabilities.
The latest figures come as Palestinian health officials and United Nations agencies continue to warn that Gaza’s healthcare system is on the verge of collapse after months of sustained bombardment and restrictions on medical supplies.
According to the Ministry of Health, 26 of Gaza’s 38 hospitals are currently out of service, leaving the remaining facilities overwhelmed by patient numbers and operating under increasingly dire conditions.
The ministry also reported that shortages have reached critical levels, with more than 50% of essential medicines unavailable, 70% of medical consumables depleted, and over 87% of laboratory testing supplies exhausted. Health officials warn that the continued depletion of these resources threatens the lives of thousands of patients who rely on emergency treatment, chronic disease care, surgery, and diagnostic services.
