Fresh Settler Attacks Leave Palestinians Injured in West Bank

DaysofPal – The Palestinian town of Tal, southwest of Nablus in the occupied West Bank, became the scene of deadly confrontations on Friday after an attack by Israeli settlers escalated into clashes involving Palestinian residents and Israeli occupation forces.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health reports that four Palestinians were killed and four more were injured, three of them critically. Israeli occupation forces, meanwhile, reported that one Israeli settler was killed and three others were injured in a shooting during the incident.

In the aftermath, Israeli occupation forces imposed a strict military lockdown on Tal and the city of Nablus, sealing entrances, deploying large numbers of troops, and carrying out extensive search operations across the area.

Located about nine kilometers southwest of Nablus, Tal is home to thousands of Palestinians whose livelihoods depend largely on agriculture. Olive groves, vineyards, almond orchards, fig trees, grain cultivation, and livestock farming form the backbone of the local economy, while many residents also work in nearby Nablus.

The town is surrounded by fertile farmland that has increasingly come under pressure from expanding Israeli settlements, particularly around the nearby Havat Gilad settlement outpost.

Palestinian institutions have repeatedly documented attacks by settlers targeting local farmers and agricultural land, often stressing that such incidents occur under the protection of Israeli occupation forces.

Despite these challenges, Tal has maintained its rural character, with residents continuing to cultivate their land despite recurring attacks.

Settler Attack Sparks Deadly Confrontation

Local sources said that the violence started when Israeli settlers from the Havat Gilad area attacked Palestinian residents on Tal’s outskirts.

Residents reportedly attempted to defend their homes and farmland before the situation escalated into direct confrontations. Israeli forces intervened and used live ammunition during the clashes, the Palestinian Ministry of Health said, resulting in four Palestinians being killed and four others wounded, including three in critical condition.

As the violence unfolded, Israeli military reinforcements continued to arrive, further heightening tensions in the area.

Israeli occupation forces said one Israeli was killed and three others were wounded in a shooting near Tal. They claimed that a Palestinian seized a weapon from one of the settlement’s security guards during the confrontation and used it to open fire.

Palestinian sources interviewed at the scene disputed the Israeli narrative, stating that the shooting occurred only after settlers had carried out a deadly assault on Palestinian residents.

Lockdown Imposed Across Nablus Area

Following the incident, Israeli occupation forces placed Tal and the wider Nablus area under a comprehensive lockdown, closing all major roads leading into the city and surrounding villages.

Large military reinforcements were deployed around Havat Gilad, while Israeli forces launched extensive search operations throughout the area.

Field sources also reported that settlers continued firing toward Palestinians in Tal after the shooting, as Israeli forces imposed severe restrictions on the movement of residents and vehicles, effectively bringing daily life in the area to a standstill.

The events in Tal come amid a broader increase in settler attacks across the Nablus governorate, particularly in villages south and west of the city. These attacks frequently target Palestinian farmland and property and are often accompanied by Israeli military raids, road closures, and checkpoints.

Observers say the violence underscores the growing tensions across the northern occupied West Bank, where Palestinian communities located near Israeli settlement outposts face recurring attacks, military operations, and movement restrictions, making Tal the latest flashpoint in an increasingly volatile region.
