DaysofPal- The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights has warned that ongoing Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip may constitute war crimes, despite the existence of a ceasefire agreement.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, UN spokesperson Thameen Al-Kheetan said that Palestinians in Gaza continue to face life-threatening conditions, with no safe areas available nearly nine months after the ceasefire was declared.
“Nine months have passed since the ceasefire declaration, and Palestinians in Gaza continue to have no safe place,” Al-Kheetan said.
According to UN data, at least 1,100 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks since the ceasefire agreement was reached in October 2025.
The UN also reported that 685 Palestinians have been killed since mid-April alone.
Al-Kheetan said the continued civilian casualties raise serious concerns about potential violations of international humanitarian law, including the possible commission of war crimes and other grave breaches.
He called on the international community to take urgent action to ensure full adherence to the ceasefire, halt ongoing Israeli violations, and guarantee accountability.
Figures released by Gaza’s Health Ministry indicate that Israeli violations of the ceasefire have resulted in the deaths of 1,168 Palestinians and injuries to 3,798 others since the agreement took effect.
The ceasefire was originally brokered to end the Israeli genocidal war that began on October 8, 2023.
Since then, more than 73,000 Palestinians have been killed and over 173,000 wounded, while approximately 90 percent of Gaza’s civilian infrastructure has been destroyed as a result of the Israeli genocidal war.
