DaysofPal — A senior Hamas delegation led by Khalil Al-Hayya, the Movement’s leader in the Gaza Strip, has arrived in Cairo to resume negotiations aimed at consolidating the ceasefire and advancing to the second phase of the agreement.
In a statement issued Wednesday evening, Taher Al-Nunu, media adviser to the head of Hamas, said the delegation will hold a series of meetings with mediators to reach understandings that ensure the stability of the ceasefire and define mechanisms for moving forward.
Al-Nono emphasized the Movement’s position on the urgent need to increase the flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza.
He also stressed the importance of completing the implementation of the first phase of the agreement while accelerating the assumption of duties by the National Committee for Gaza Administration, following the resignation of the previous administrative body earlier this week.
According to the statement, preparations on both the governmental and national levels inside Gaza have been completed to facilitate a smooth transfer of administrative responsibilities, in line with prior agreements.
The renewed visit comes less than two days after the delegation last departed Cairo, following several days of negotiations held earlier in the week.
The quick return suggests an intensification of diplomatic efforts during this phase of talks.
Mediators are working to prevent a breakdown in the fragile ceasefire and to address key issues, including humanitarian access, governance arrangements, and the next steps in the broader agreement.
The outcome of the current round of discussions is expected to play a significant role in determining whether the ceasefire can be sustained and whether progress can be made toward longer-term stability in the region.
