DaysofPal- The Prisoners’ Media Office has disclosed new details regarding a large-scale crackdown carried out by the administration of Damon Prison against Palestinian female detainees on May 13, saying that the operation involved physical and psychological abuse as well as violations of human dignity.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the office said that special prison suppression units stormed the detainees’ rooms one after another, forcing the women to lie face down on the ground with their hands bound behind their backs for extended periods before subjecting them to beatings, dragging, and other forms of mistreatment.
According to the statement, several detainees were physically assaulted during the raid, with some beaten, stepped on, and deliberately thrown to the ground. Searches were reportedly conducted under conditions described as degrading and humiliating.
The office further noted that some female detainees were forced to undergo searches in the presence of male prison guards and were subjected to beatings and the tightening of restraints, resulting in injuries and physical effects that persisted long after the operation had ended.
The statement said the detainees were later transferred to the prison yard while handcuffed and blindfolded, where they were forced to remain on the ground in painful positions for prolonged periods. It also stated that some guards directed insulting remarks and sexually suggestive comments toward the women during the operation.
According to the Prisoners’ Media Office, the repercussions of the raid continued in the days that followed. Some detainees were reportedly subjected to punitive and retaliatory measures, including solitary confinement, prolonged restraint, and further mistreatment. The statement also cited the use of stun grenades, psychological intimidation tactics, and the forcing of detainees to move barefoot while blindfolded under harsh conditions.
The office stressed that the actions carried out at Damon Prison constitute a serious violation of international humanitarian law and international conventions governing the protection of prisoners and detainees. It called on international human rights and humanitarian organizations to take urgent action to halt such violations, hold those responsible accountable, and ensure protection for Palestinian female prisoners.
