DaysofPal- The United Nations Secretary-General’s 2025 report on Children and Armed Conflict revealed a 34 percent increase in grave violations committed against children worldwide compared with the previous year, highlighting the alarming situation facing Palestinian children in the occupied Palestinian territories.
The annual 47-page report, issued by UN Secretary-General António Guterres, documented 9,465 grave violations committed by Israeli occupation forces against Palestinian children during 2025.
According to the report, these violations included killing and maiming, the recruitment and use of children for military purposes, abduction, rape and other forms of sexual violence, attacks on schools and hospitals, and the denial of humanitarian access.
The report noted that violations in the occupied Palestinian territories were recorded across both the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem. It documented 5,452 violations in the West Bank and East Jerusalem and 6,984 violations in Gaza. In addition to the 9,465 grave violations attributed to Israeli forces, the United Nations verified 326 further violations committed by Israeli settlers against Palestinian children.
The report further revealed that Israeli authorities detained 981 Palestinian children during 2025, including 973 boys and eight girls. Of those detained, 180 children were held without charge or trial.
According to UN findings, 66 children reported experiencing physical violence and other forms of ill-treatment while in detention. The report also documented the death of one Palestinian child during the period of detention.
The United Nations additionally verified the use of three children as human shields by Israeli forces in both the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. The report recorded the injury of 2,223 children in Gaza and 2,921 children in the West Bank and East Jerusalem as a result of attacks carried out by Israeli forces and settlers.
Guterres expressed alarm at the scale of grave violations committed against children in the occupied Palestinian territories. He said he was shocked by the continued violations in Gaza and voiced deep concern over the escalating violence in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.
The UN Secretary-General also stressed his serious concern over the significant increase in violations committed by Israeli occupation forces against children, as well as the growing number of child fatalities and injuries documented during the reporting period.
