DayofPal—Hamas political leader Khaled Meshaal reaffirmed that the Palestinian movement will reject any foreign control over Gaza and will not relinquish its weapons despite pressure from Israel and the United States.
Speaking at a conference in Doha, Meshaal said, “Criminalizing the resistance, its weapons, and its leaders is unacceptable. As long as there is occupation, resistance is the right of the people, and nations are proud of it.”
The statement comes amid the second phase of US President Donald Trump’s plan to end the war in Gaza, which began after a nominal ceasefire on 10 October 2025.
This phase includes the proposed disarmament of Hamas and the gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip.
Reports indicate that Israeli officials are also exploring economic opportunities tied to Gaza’s reconstruction, including a new highway linking Gaza to occupied Palestinian territories and potential electricity supply contracts that benefit Israelis.
Hamas has expressed willingness to hand over weapons to a future Palestinian-led authority. Governance of Gaza would temporarily shift to a 15-member technocratic committee under Trump’s proposed “Peace Council.”
Meshaal stressed that Palestinians must govern themselves, rejecting foreign oversight or intervention. “Gaza belongs to its people and to Palestine. We will not accept foreign domination,” he said.
