DaysofPal – Tahir al-Nounou, media adviser to the head of Hamas’s Political Bureau, affirmed on Wednesday that the movement acts in accordance with what best serves the interests of the Palestinian people, stressing its adherence to the option of resistance as an inherent right guaranteed by international laws and norms.
In press statements, al-Nounou said that “the main problem is not the weapons of the resistance, but the continuation and persistence of the occupation,” emphasizing that the Israeli occupation remains the fundamental obstacle to any stability or genuine peace.
He explained that the occupation does not seek peace in the Gaza Strip, noting that Israel’s ongoing violations are aimed at obstructing the ceasefire agreement that came into effect more than 100 days ago.
Al-Nounou added, “We have fully adhered to all the terms of the ceasefire agreement and have not responded to the occupation’s violations, out of respect for our commitments and declared obligations.”
He also highlighted the importance of including Arab and Islamic states within what is referred to as the “Peace Council,” stressing that the council’s role should focus on ending the occupation and rebuilding the Gaza Strip.
Israel continues to violate the ceasefire agreement that entered into force on October 10, 2025.
According to the Government Media Office in Gaza, the occupation committed 430 shooting incidents and carried out 66 military incursions into neighborhoods and residential areas during the first 100 days of the truce.
These violations also included 604 bombardment and targeting incidents, as well as 200 demolitions of homes and various buildings.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the office said that these violations resulted in the killing of 483 Palestinians, including 252 children, women, and elderly people, accounting for 52 percent of the victims.
Civilians made up 444 of those killed, or 92 percent, while 465 people, representing 96 percent, were killed inside residential neighborhoods, far from the designated buffer zone.
