DaysofPal- The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has warned that children in the Gaza Strip continue to endure dire conditions, exacerbated by ongoing restrictions on the entry of humanitarian assistance imposed by Israeli forces.
In a statement on social media, UNRWA emphasized that “children in Gaza should be able to experience warmth, proper nutrition, and sufficient safety to look forward to their future.” The agency highlighted the urgent need for humanitarian aid that remains stranded outside the Strip due to these restrictions.
UNRWA stressed that, like other aid organizations, it “remains fully prepared to expand assistance” but called for “all restrictions on aid to be lifted immediately” to prevent further suffering among vulnerable populations.
The humanitarian situation has been worsened by severe winter conditions. Mahmoud Basal, spokesperson for Gaza’s Civil Defence, reported that the current cold spell has caused thousands of tents used by displaced families to be damaged or destroyed. He noted that this crisis is a direct consequence of Israel’s continued blockage of construction materials and delays in reconstruction efforts.
Tragically, the harsh weather claimed the life of a seven-day-old infant on Saturday, highlighting the extreme vulnerability of displaced families living in fragile shelters that fail to meet basic safety standards.
Despite the ceasefire agreement that took effect on October 10, 2025, which was intended to allow the reopening of crossings and the entry of tents and mobile homes, the humanitarian crisis in Gaza has seen little improvement. Restrictions imposed by Israeli authorities have continued to prevent the delivery of essential aid, leaving civilians exposed to worsening conditions, especially during winter storms.
The ceasefire ended a two-year campaign of destruction that began on October 7, 2023, resulting in a genocidal offensive. The conflict left more than 71,000 Palestinians dead, over 171,000 injured, and destroyed approximately 90 percent of Gaza’s civilian infrastructure. The United Nations has estimated that reconstruction would cost around $70 billion.
