DaysofPal- Khalil al-Hayya, the chairman of Hamas’s political bureau, said in an exclusive interview with Al Jazeera that the Movement is ready to hand over the administration of the Gaza Strip to any national Palestinian body, emphasizing that Hamas’s goal is to hold comprehensive elections across all Palestinian territories, including the West Bank, Jerusalem, and Gaza.
Al-Hayya stated that Hamas’s weapons are linked to the existence of the Israeli occupation and aggression, explaining that “if the Israeli occupation ends, these weapons will be handed over to the Palestinian state.”
He added that the future of Hamas’s weapons is still being discussed with other Palestinian factions and regional mediators.
He also said that the movement does not object to the presence of United Nations forces along Gaza’s borders to monitor the ceasefire and ensure its stability, affirming that Hamas remains committed to the current truce despite repeated Israeli violations.
The Hamas official criticized the severe restrictions on humanitarian aid entering the Strip, stressing that the amount of aid allowed in “is far from sufficient to meet the population’s enormous needs,” noting that Gaza requires around 6,000 aid trucks per day, while only about 600 trucks are currently entering on average.
Al-Hayya warned that the continued delay in aid deliveries “poses a direct threat to humanitarian stability in Gaza,” calling on mediators and the international community to pressure Israel to lift the blockade and remove all restrictions on humanitarian access.
He revealed that special teams will soon enter new areas to search for the bodies of some missing Israeli captives, in coordination with international mediators.
Al-Hayya dismissed Israeli statements about “disarming Hamas” as unrealistic, asserting that “as long as the Israeli occupation exists, the resistance will continue, and weapons are a means of defending the Palestinian people, not an end in themselves.”
He concluded by stressing that Hamas’s priorities in the coming phase are to rebuild Gaza, lift the blockade, and achieve Palestinian national unity, affirming that the movement “is open to all initiatives that serve the interests of the Palestinian people and their just cause.”
