DaysofPal – The Hamas Movement marked the first anniversary of the murder of its political bureau chief, Yahya al-Sinwar, with a statement affirming that the “blood of the martyred leaders strengthens the path of resistance and passes on to future generations the pledge of steadfastness and loyalty until the liberation of the land and the sanctities.”
Hamas said al-Sinwar “ended his heroic life and struggle at the heart of the Al-Aqsa Flood battle, advancing fearlessly and defying the might of the occupation.”
The statement noted that a year after the death of the “great national leader,” the Palestinian people, through patience and steadfastness, and the resistance, through strength and bravery, have achieved a national milestone.
The outcome, Hamas said, was an agreement that thwarted Israel’s plans in its war on Gaza, ending aggression, genocide, starvation, displacement, and ethnic cleansing, and securing a prisoner exchange deal dubbed ‘Flood of the Free,’ under which 1,968 Palestinian detainees were released, breaking what the group called “the arrogance of the Zionist jailer.”
Hamas paid tribute to al-Sinwar’s legacy, describing him as a lifelong fighter who resisted since his youth, endured 23 years in Israeli prisons, and continued his mission of preparation, rebuilding, and planning after his release until the dawn of October 7, 2023, “which shattered the myth of Israel’s army and shook its foundations,” culminating in his death “on the battlefield, engaged and unyielding.”
The movement stressed that the assassination of Yahya al-Sinwar, like the deaths of other Hamas leaders before him, would only deepen their determination to continue their path and uphold their sacrifices.
“The flame of the Al-Aqsa Flood will remain burning,” the statement said, “carrying the spirit of unity, steadfastness, and commitment to national principles. Its fire will not fade from the hearts of our people, no matter the cost or the magnitude of the occupation’s crimes.”
Reaffirming its pledge, Hamas vowed that “the banner of resistance will never fall,” and that Palestinians will continue to carry it “until full liberation and the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.”
Addressing its slain leader directly, the movement wrote, “On the first anniversary of your martyrdom, Abu Ibrahim, rest assured. You fulfilled your duty, fought bravely to humble the enemy, break its power, and shake the pillars of its false entity.”
It added that although al-Sinwar’s “pure body lies absent from Gaza’s soil, his spirit fills the heavens,” proclaiming that “the blood of the martyrs writes eternal glory for Palestine and the nation.”
Hamas declared that Israel had failed to achieve its war aims and was ultimately “forced into a ceasefire, retrieving its captives only on the resistance’s terms and under its conditions.”
Yahya al-Sinwar was killed on October 16, 2024, wearing his combat vest and fighting on the frontlines, “advancing, not retreating,” as Hamas described, in a finale the group said embodied “heroism, dignity, and the path of truth against a criminal enemy.”
