Israeli Attacks Target Civilian Areas in Gaza, Killing 12

DaysofPal – The Israeli occupation continues to commit systematic crimes against civilians and humanitarian and medical personnel as part of its ongoing policy of genocide against Palestinians since October 8, 2023.

Recent figures, deemed “terrifying” by Gaza’s Government Media Office, show that Israel amputations 13 Palestinians’ limbs every two days and kills two medical personnel on average every day. According to the data, women and children make up over half of the victims.

The Media Office said in a statement that Israel injures over 230 Palestinians every day and murders one journalist every three days and one civil defense worker every five days. It also causes six people to suffer paralysis or lose their sight every two days, amid continued attacks on health facilities and civilian infrastructure in the besieged enclave.

The office noted that Israel carries out more than one military assault per day on the health system, including hospitals, ambulances, and relief centers, leading to the near-total collapse of the health sector, which now operates at less than 15% of its capacity.

These figures are clear indicators of a systematic act of genocide, as defined by the 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, which describes genocide as “acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial, or religious group.”

The repeated targeting of medical and humanitarian workers demonstrates a deliberate attempt by Israel to destroy the foundations of life and survival for the Palestinian people, an egregious violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention, which obligates an occupying power to protect medical personnel and facilities during times of conflict.

Furthermore, the systematic practice of amputations and the targeting of children, women, and the wounded form part of a widespread pattern of behavior amounting to a crime against humanity under the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, which criminalizes acts of torture, serious bodily harm, and inhumane treatment.

In addition, the ongoing blockade on Gaza, in place for more than 17 years, constitutes a form of collective punishment prohibited under Article 33 of the Fourth Geneva Convention. The blockade restricts the entry of food, medicine, and fuel, causing famine that has claimed the lives of hundreds of civilians, including 154 children so far this year alone.

Despite the overwhelming evidence and consistent field reports, the international community continues to lack a firm and effective stance toward these crimes, perpetuating the policy of impunity that Israel has enjoyed for decades.
