DaysofPal- The Hamas Movement has rejected U.S. President Donald Trump’s claims that it has repeatedly obstructed ceasefire proposals in Gaza, stressing instead that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is the sole impediment to reaching an agreement.
In a statement issued Tuesday evening, Hamas said it has “never been an obstacle to achieving a ceasefire,” underscoring that it has demonstrated “maximum flexibility and a positive approach” in negotiations.
Hamas added that both the U.S. administration and international mediators are well aware that “war criminal Benjamin Netanyahu is the only party blocking all attempts at an agreement.”
According to Hamas, Netanyahu reneged on the January ceasefire deal and disregarded the “Wittkoff proposal,” which the group had already accepted.
The statement further accused the Israeli occupation of committing a grave violation by bombing the location of Hamas’s delegation in Doha while it was discussing Trump’s latest initiative.
Hamas called on the U.S. administration to “stand on the side of justice and intervene constructively” by compelling the Israeli occupation to end the “genocide, ethnic cleansing, and forced displacement” of Palestinians, and to withdraw its political and military cover for the ongoing war in Gaza.
Earlier on Tuesday, President Trump told the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York that his administration had succeeded in securing the release of most Israeli captives held in Gaza.
“We want to bring back the remaining hostages, all at once,” Trump said, emphasizing the need to end the war in Gaza, resume peace talks, and ensure the captives’ immediate release.
