DaysofPal- Human Rights Watch (HRW) has accused members of the U.S. armed forces of supporting the Israeli military in committing war crimes in Gaza and of being complicit in operations against Palestinians.
Human Rights Watch confirmed in a press release on Wednesday that the United States has continued to provide military support to the Israeli military, including weapons that have allegedly been used in war crimes against Palestinians in Gaza since October 2023, and called for an urgent investigation to hold those responsible accountable.
It said, “Under international humanitarian law, the ongoing hostilities between Israel and Palestinian armed groups in Gaza are a non-international armed conflict. International law does not set out specific criteria for determining when a country assisting another country in a non-international armed conflict itself becomes a party to that conflict, though direct participation in combat operations is a clear example.”
According to Human Rights Watch, U.S. officials have acknowledged that, since the outbreak of hostilities between Palestinian armed groups and Israel on October 7, 2023, the United States has supplied Israel with significant actionable intelligence used in targeting strikes in Gaza. This support has included extensive coordination, operational planning, and intelligence sharing with Israeli forces, specifically aimed at locating and targeting Hamas leaders.
“Both the Biden and the second Trump administrations have provided massive arms sales and other security assistance to Israel,” HRW affirmed.
Human Rights Watch reported that, according to the Security Assistance Monitor at the Center for International Policy, the United States transferred at least $4.17 billion worth of arms to Israel between October 2023 and May 2025. Based on U.S. State Department data, the Monitor also found that, as of April 2025, there were 751 active Foreign Military Sales cases with Israel, totaling $39.2 billion. This extensive military support continued despite clear awareness that Israeli forces were repeatedly committing serious violations of the laws of war, including acts that amount to war crimes.
