DaysofPal – The Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, warned that two months of intensified Israeli siege on the Gaza Strip have resulted in a catastrophic humanitarian crisis.
Dr. Tedros noted that nearly two million people are facing hunger, while over 116,000 tons of food aid remain blocked at border crossings. He stressed that the deliberate blockade is preventing the entry of essential humanitarian assistance — particularly food — significantly heightening the risk of mass famine.
He further explained that the escalation in military operations, combined with evacuation orders and the obstruction of humanitarian efforts, is causing increasing casualties. This is occurring in the context of an almost total collapse of Gaza’s healthcare system, which is no longer capable of responding to the escalating crisis.
On Monday, the Palestinian Government Media Office confirmed that no meaningful aid has entered the Gaza Strip in months. It reported that the Israeli occupation has completely sealed all border crossings and has not allowed even a single grain of wheat to enter for nearly three months — part of what it described as a systematic starvation policy targeting 2.4 million civilians.
In a press release, the office stated:
“The Israeli occupation claims it will allow nine trucks carrying limited nutritional supplements for children. This is a drop in the ocean of urgent needs and fails to meet even the bare minimum for survival.”
It emphasized that Gaza requires 500 aid trucks and 50 fuel trucks daily, which amounts to 44,000 trucks over the past 80 days.
“What has entered so far is less than 0.02% of that figure. This comparison alone exposes the scale of the catastrophe and the criminal intent behind the blockade and starvation campaign.”
The Government Media Office held both the Israeli authorities and the international community fully responsible for the ongoing humanitarian crime, and it called for immediate international action to open all border crossings unconditionally and ensure the full delivery of aid before it is too late.
