DaysofPal- Hundreds of activists and supporters took to the streets of Stockholm on Saturday evening, rallying against Israel’s ongoing war of extermination in the Gaza Strip.
The demonstration, held in the Odenplan area of Sweden’s capital, saw participants waving Palestinian flags and holding placards bearing powerful messages such as “There is a massacre in Palestine,” “Freedom is near,” “There is a genocide in Gaza,” and “Urgent and indefinite ceasefire in Gaza.”
The passionate crowd marched toward the Swedish parliament, chanting slogans like “The Palestinian people are not alone” and “Raise your voices for Palestine.” For many, the protest was not only an act of solidarity but also a call to action, urging the international community to intervene and hold Israeli occupation accountable for its atrocities.
Condemning Western Complicity
Speaking to Anadolu Agency, Swedish activist Malin Akertrom, who has participated in pro-Palestine demonstrations weekly since 2023, voiced her outrage over the humanitarian catastrophe unfolding in Gaza. “There is a horrific famine because humanitarian aid is being deliberately blocked from reaching Palestine,” she said.
Akertrom criticized the role of Western powers, particularly the United States, in enabling Israeli occupation and crimes. “The root of all evil is the United States,” she asserted. “It has sponsored Israeli occupation of Palestine and is funding the genocide in Gaza.” Her remarks reflect growing frustration among activists who accuse Western governments of complicity in the suffering of Palestinians.
She also condemned the biased coverage of the conflict by mainstream media outlets. “Although what Israel is doing in Palestine is genocide, Western media describes it as a war between two countries,” Akertrom explained. “Swedish public television and radio present the news in this distorted way, perpetuating misinformation and shielding Israel from accountability.”
The Human Cost of Genocide
Since October 7, 2023, Israeli relentless genocide on Gaza—backed by full U.S. support—has left approximately 168,000 Palestinians dead or wounded, with the majority being women and children. Over 11,000 remain missing, presumed buried under rubble or unaccounted for due to the scale of destruction. These staggering figures underscore the devastating human toll of Israeli genocide, which activists and human rights organizations have repeatedly labeled as genocide.
The blockade imposed by Israeli occupation forces has exacerbated the crisis, cutting off access to food, water, medicine, and other essential supplies. As a result, hunger and preventable diseases are spreading rapidly across the Strip, further endangering the lives of millions already living in dire conditions.
Global Solidarity Grows Despite Media Bias
The Stockholm demonstration is part of a broader wave of protests sweeping Europe and beyond, as people mobilize to demand an end to Israeli genocide and advocate for Palestinian rights. Despite attempts by some governments and media outlets to downplay the severity of the situation, grassroots movements continue to amplify the voices of those affected by the Israeli war and occupation.
For demonstrators like Malin Akertrom, these rallies serve as both a moral imperative and a reminder that the struggle for justice transcends borders. “We cannot stay silent while innocent civilians are being slaughtered,” she emphasized. “This is not just a Palestinian issue—it’s a global one. We must stand together until freedom prevails.”
The Stockholm protest sends a clear message: the world is watching, and silence in the face of injustice is no longer acceptable. Whether through street demonstrations, social media campaigns, or diplomatic pressure, the global movement for Palestinian liberation shows no signs of slowing down. For the people of Gaza, every voice raised in solidarity brings them one step closer to hope—and ultimately, freedom.
