DaysofPal- The Palestinian Prisoners’ Media Office has released details on the prisoners set to be freed by Israel today as part of the ongoing ceasefire agreement.
According to the statement, among 151 prisoners with life and long-term sentences, 43 will be released to the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem, 97 will be deported abroad, and 11 prisoners jailed before October 7, 2023, will return to Gaza.
445 Palestinian prisoners from Gaza, who were imprisoned after October 7, will also be sent back to the enclave, along with 24 female and child detainees.
However, Israeli authorities have reportedly blocked several families from traveling to Egypt to welcome their released relatives.
According to the Prisoners’ Media Office, the wife of Nael Barghouti, Palestine’s longest-serving prisoner, has been prevented from traveling to meet her husband, who is set to be released under the Al-Aqsa Flood deal. Similarly, the family of prisoner Ashraf Khalil Hussein Abu Al-Rub has been barred from traveling to Egypt, where he is being deported.
The ceasefire agreement, which took effect on January 19, is structured into three phases, each lasting 42 days. Before completing each phase, negotiations for the next phase must take place.
