DaysofPal- The ongoing Israeli military assault on Jenin and its refugee camp has entered its second month, leaving at least 27 Palestinians dead and dozens injured. The relentless attacks have caused severe destruction to homes, roads, and public infrastructure, displacing the vast majority of the camp’s residents.
According to Palestinian sources, more than 90 percent of the Jenin refugee camp’s population has been forcibly displaced by Israeli forces. Day by day, the extent of the devastation becomes clearer as bulldozers continue to demolish neighborhoods, carve new pathways through residential areas, and destroy what remains of critical infrastructure.
On Tuesday, Israeli forces detained two children and two young men from Jenin City. The military also strengthened its presence in the area by placing mobile rooms and large water tanks for its soldiers at strategic points of entry to the refugee camp, according to local reports.
Jenin mayor Mohamed Jarrar condemned the destruction, stating that the Israeli military has systematically demolished homes, burned structures, and dismantled infrastructure in an apparent effort to render the camp uninhabitable. He accused Israeli forces of attempting to permanently displace residents, forcing them into an environment where returning to their homes becomes impossible.
A local official reported that Israeli forces have fully or partially destroyed approximately 470 homes in the Jenin refugee camp.
Three Palestinian families were forced from their homes in al-Tayba village, west of Jenin, by Israeli troops, who then turned the homes into military outposts in a further violation of human rights.
A 16-year-old boy was injured when soldiers used tear gas on civilians in the southern Jenin town of Meithalun. A young man was seriously injured after being brutally beaten by soldiers, and a resident, Mahmoud al-Danouf, was forcibly taken from his home and detained.
The military operation, which began on January 21 in the northern occupied West Bank city of Jenin, saw hundreds of Israeli troops and bulldozers deployed. The forces demolished houses, tore up roads, and forced nearly all the camp’s residents to flee.
