DaysofPal- More than 12,000 Palestinian students have been killed since Israel launched its ruthless and indiscriminate offensive on Gaza last year, denying hundreds of thousands of children access to education and destroying schools and universities.
The Palestinian Ministry of Education reported that since October 7, 2023, at least 12,799 students have been killed and 20,311 injured in Gaza and the West Bank. There have also been 3,700 injuries and 564 deaths among educators and school officials.
The Ministry noted that 65 institutions connected to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and 425 government schools and universities and their infrastructure had been vandalized and bombed in the Gaza Strip.
It also confirmed that 788,000 students in the Gaza Strip have been deprived of attending their schools and universities since the beginning of the aggression. In contrast, most students suffer from psychological trauma and face difficult health conditions.
Students’ lack of access to education has significantly impacted their cognitive, social, and emotional development. Children’s psychological trauma and mental health issues are common, according to parents, and are made worse by stress and loneliness.
Gaza’s exceptionally high literacy rate of 98 per cent reflects the pre-war emphasis on education, which makes this crisis all the more tragic.
Since October 7, 2023, the Israeli assault has killed 45,059 Palestinians, according to local health authorities, and injured another 107,041 more. The majority of the victims are women and children.
