DaysofPal—A Palestinian commission has condemned the Israeli treatment of child prisoners, describing their conditions in Israeli jails as catastrophic and marked by racism and brutality.
The Palestinian Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs stated in a press release that child prisoners in Megiddo Prison are enduring systematic abuse by Israeli jailers.
The statement emphasized that “these children have become victims of the hatred, racism, and criminal practices of Israeli occupation authorities, who treat them with shocking cruelty.”
The commission highlighted how prison authorities exploit the children’s young age and physical vulnerability, using fear and intimidation tactics. These include storming their cells, subjecting them to physical and verbal abuse, and deliberately aiming to break their spirits.
The statement described these practices as politically motivated, targeting the children’s mental health and emotional stability.
A lawyer from the commission reported on the dire conditions the children face, citing testimonies from imprisoned minors in Megiddo.
According to these accounts, the living, health, and psychological conditions are disastrous, with specialized units engaging in deliberate acts of repression and abuse.
The commission noted that approximately 280 Palestinian children are currently held in Israeli prisons.
The total number of Palestinian detainees in Israeli custody has reached 11,900, excluding individuals from Gaza held in military detention camps, according to the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club.
