DaysofPal- Hamas has refused to consider a proposal for a short ceasefire agreement put forward by mediating countries because it does not meet “the needs of the Palestinians,” a movement official said on Friday.
The proposals include a temporary ceasefire for a few days and increasing the number of humanitarian aid trucks allowed into the Gaza Strip, in addition to the possibility of a partial exchange of prisoners between the two parties.
“The proposals do not include a permanent cessation of aggression, nor do they entail the withdrawal of the Israeli army from the Gaza Strip or the return of displaced persons,” the Movement said.
According to senior Hamas official Osama Hamdan, Israel “is definitively not serious in the negotiations” and is not making any real proposals.
In addition to failing to restore the damaged infrastructure or reopen the crossings, particularly the Rafah crossing, which is regarded as a lifeline for the people of the Strip, Hamdan insisted that the proposals do not address the Palestinian people’s urgent humanitarian needs for security and stability.
The Palestinian people demand a comprehensive and permanent ceasefire, the full withdrawal of the occupation from Gaza, the return of the displaced to their homes, and the complete lifting of the siege, the Hamas delegation reaffirmed its firm stance to the mediators.
The Hamas official emphasized that the movement is receptive to any suggestions and discussions that can help realize the objectives of the Palestinian people and carry out Security Council Resolution No. 2735, which asks for a focus on human rights and enduring peace in the area.
