The UN Human Rights Office has expressed deep “concern” over Israel’s plan to forcibly evacuate more than 80 Palestinian families from their homes in the occupied Jerusalem’s area of Silwan.
In a statement, the office said that 87 Palestinian families, comprising 600-680 people, are facing legal proceedings initiated by illegal Israeli settlers to evict them from their homes in Batn al-Hawa.
These cases are part of “an ongoing systematic settlers’ campaign” to “uproot Palestinians from their homes, take over their property and implant Israeli settlers in the heart of Palestinian neighbourhoods in occupied Jerusalem, the office added.
This campaign came as the Israeli army has displaced thousands of people from Al-Bureij and Al-Nuseirate camps in the middle area of the Gaza Strip on Monday July 29th, 2024.
