In a powerful address to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), US Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield expressed grave concern over the dire situation faced by Palestinian civilians in Gaza. She described their living conditions as a “hell,” highlighting severe shortages of food, water, and medicines.
Thomas-Greenfield urged the Israeli occupation to take immediate steps to remove barriers hindering the delivery of aid at scale. While acknowledging some progress, she emphasized that unresolved requests, particularly related to communication equipment vital for deconfliction, remain a pressing issue.
The ambassador also criticized Israeli plans for thousands of new housing units in the occupied West Bank. She asserted that such unilateral actions are inconsistent with international law and detrimental to achieving a two-state solution.
The UNSC now faces the challenge of addressing these urgent humanitarian concerns while navigating complex geopolitical dynamics in the region.
