Hossam Badran, a member of Hamas’ political bureau, stated that the movement has not received any new proposal for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip except the proposal presented by the mediators on May 6, which Hamas and the resistance factions approved while Israel rejected. The movement remains on their adopted stance.
“President Joe Biden’s speech regarding negotiations to end the war on Gaza indicated that the occupation and its main supporters are in a state of confusion because they bet on the breaking of our people and the defeat of their resistance, which did not happen,” he added.
Badran, in addition, said that Biden’s statement acknowledged, in one way or another, that the Israeli occupation is unable to achieve any of its political and military goals that it announced over the past months.
The United States, he stressed, has the tools and ability to pressure Netanyahu and his extremist government to stop the war and they are the ones refusing to reach any agreement.
On this regard, Badran affirmed that Netanyahu is the only party that has obstructed reaching any agreement and wants to prolong the war for personal and partisan reasons, disregarding the regional and international stance, which is almost in unanimous agreement to stop it.
“Netanyahu’s statements somewhat respond to Biden’s speech by indicating that he does not want to move towards any practical agreement,” Badran’s statement highlighted. It added that the main guarantee for the implementation of any agreement is the “Gazans strength on the ground as a people and resistance.”
Commenting on which party to control Gaza after the war, Badran said “We will not allow the Israeli occupation to practise any role in arranging our internal affairs, whether the situation inside Gaza or dealing with the borders crossings in general, especially the Rafah crossing.”
He reiterated a Palestinian consensus that the Israeli occupation must withdraw from the Rafah crossing, clarifying the previous administration of the crossing should return, and the Palestinian situation’s arrangement is an internal matter that Palestinians themselves can manage without agreeing to any regional or international pressure.
