Open Gaza Ports Campaign: Jordanians Rally in Solidarity with Gaza
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Dozens of Jordanians gathered on Tuesday evening, September 26, 2023, for a solidarity demonstration in front of the United Nations office in the capital, Amman.

The rally aimed to demand the lifting of the Israeli blockade on the Gaza Strip as part of the international “Open Gaza Ports” campaign.

Participants in the demonstration, organized by several political parties and professional unions, reaffirmed their unwavering support for the people of Gaza.

They emphasized the necessity for Gazans to obtain their full rights amidst chants that expressed solidarity with the residents of the beleaguered enclave.

Wael Sakka, the head of the “Open Gaza Ports” campaign, addressed the crowd during the rally, explaining that the campaign’s primary goal is to call for the lifting of the blockade on Gaza.

He added that this international campaign spans across more than 20 Arab and European countries worldwide. It aims to shed light on the suffering of the Palestinian people in the besieged territory.

Sakka stressed that the normalization of relations between Arab countries and the Israeli occupation represents a betrayal of the Palestinian people. He reiterated the importance of all nations standing in solidarity with the people of Gaza and calling for an end to the blockade imposed on the Strip.

A Continual Message of Hope

Abdul Majeed Dandees, a member of the executive bureau of the Popular Unity Party, highlighted that the demonstration emphasizes the crucial messages conveyed by the national campaign to lift the blockade on Gaza. He firmly stated that the slogan “Lift the Siege on Gaza” must remain a constant demand.

He also noted that Jordan’s official stance should be clearer and more prominent on both Arab and international fronts to halt the suffering of Palestinians in Gaza. Dandees pointed out that the international community often remains passive when it comes to the Palestinian people and exerts minimal pressure on the occupation to end the Gaza blockade.

The activities of the “Open Gaza Ports” campaign are set to expand to several Jordanian cities. The campaign’s participants include political parties, unions, national and parliamentary figures, and media outlets. Their collective aim is to exert pressure and raise awareness about the suffering of Gaza’s residents.

It’s worth mentioning that the “Open Gaza Ports” initiative began last Saturday from the Gaza Sea Port. The campaign is expected to continue until the end of September, encompassing various Arab and European countries.

Gaza’s population endures dire economic conditions due to the stringent Israeli blockade imposed on the Strip since mid-2007.
