Despite strict measures taken by Israeli occupation forces at the gates and entrances to the Old City in Jerusalem, tens of thousands of Palestinians gathered for the Friday prayer at Al-Aqsa Mosque on September 15, 2023.

The Islamic Waqf estimated that approximately 40,000 worshippers came together to pray at Al-Aqsa Mosque, with Israeli security forces implementing stringent security measures at the mosque’s entrances.

The squares and courtyards of the mosque were packed with worshippers, many of whom came from various Palestinian governorates, including Jerusalem and the occupied Palestinian territories.

Israeli Restrictions

Israeli occupation forces maintained a strong presence in the city’s thoroughfares and in the vicinity of Al-Aqsa Mosque, where they were stationed at the entrances.

They conducted examinations of the identification cards of individuals seeking entry, resulting in the exclusion of numerous worshippers from reaching the mosque.

These developments occur as extremist Israeli groups prepare to escalate settler incursions into the Al-Aqsa Mosque during the upcoming Jewish holidays, which begin in mid-September and extend into early October.

In response, there have been persistent calls from Jerusalemites in recent days to counter anticipated settler incursions by increasing their presence at Al-Aqsa Mosque.
