In a disturbing incident on Saturday evening May 4, 2023, Israeli settlers launched an attack on three Palestinian families from the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in occupied Jerusalem, using bullets, stones, and pepper spray.
Salah Diab, a member of the neighborhood committee, explained that the settlers assaulted the Nusseibeh and Hammad families with stones while they were walking towards the so-called “Tomb of Simon the Righteous” in the heart of the neighborhood.
He added that a group of settlers at the tomb threw stones at his house while his family members were in the courtyard.
Diab further stated that upon learning about the attack, he immediately rushed with his family members to the tomb. During their approach, one of the settlers fired a bullet in their direction.
Another settler sprayed pepper spray at a young man from the family.
This incident highlights the ongoing tensions in occupied Jerusalem, particularly in Sheikh Jarrah, where Palestinian families face threats and violence from Israeli settlers seeking to forcibly expel them from their homes.
