The Israeli occupation forces committed a number of crimes and violations against the Palestinians in occupied Jerusalem in May 2023.
During the reporting period, at least 5943 colonial Israeli settlers invaded the courtyards of Al-Aqsa mosque and performed provocative Talmudic rituals in some of its yards, citing the Flags march as a pretext.
Israeli fanatics participants waved Israeli flags, conducted proactive Talmudic rituals, and chanted anti-Arab slogans as they passed through Palestinian neighborhoods.
All colonial settlers and the settlements in which they live are illegal under international law.
The report recorded the Israeli occupation detention of at least 140 Palestinians including women and minors.
Moreover, at least 78 arrest decisions were issued by the Israeli occupation including 16 administrative detentions, 33 house arrests, and 29 prison sentences, according to data collected by Marsad Network.
At the same time, the Israeli occupation issued 50 banishment orders against Jerusalemite activists as well as employees of the Jerusalem Waqf (Endowment) Department, ِAl-Qastal reported.
During the reporting period, Israeli settlers have carried out 48 attacks against Palestinians and their own property in occupied Jerusalem, including severely beating Palestinians, land theft, violating Islamic and Christian sanctities, and writing racist slogans on Jerusalemites’ cars and sabotaging them.
Israeli troops wounded 151 Palestinians varying between live and rubber-coated metal bullets, severe attacks by Israeli forces and settlers, burns, head injuries, and fractures, in addition to hundreds of suffocation cases as a result of tear gas canisters being fired directly towards Palestinians.
The Israeli occupation forces leveled 22 Palestinian-owned structures in occupied Jerusalem, leaving its people homeless.
Israeli occupation authorities strive to impose a new reality on the occupied city of Jerusalem through the implementation of dangerous colonial settlement projects.
Israeli occupation approved 8 settlement projects in various areas of occupied Jerusalem including:
- A huge plan to expand the “Nof Zahav” Israeli settlement at the expense of the Palestinian lands of Jabal Al Mukaber. The plan includes 100 settlement units and 275 hotel rooms so that it becomes the largest settlement in the heart of a Palestinian neighborhood in Jerusalem with a capacity of 400 settlement units.
- New plan to build 1700 settlement units east of the Israeli settlement of ‘Ramot’. These new plans will affect geographically and demographically the Palestinian presence in the Holy City.
- The Israeli settlement association of Elad approved the construction of thousands of new settlement units within a plan aimed at establishing 58,000 settlement units east of occupied Jerusalem.
