Beginning on the first day of Ramadan, 2000 Palestinian prisoners will initiate an indefinite hunger strike in response to the ineffectiveness of both foreign and domestic attempts to curb the abuses of Israeli far-right lawmakers such as Itamar Ben Gvir and Smotrich, commonly referred to as “hill boys“.
Today, Tuesday, the Supreme National Emergency Committee of the prisoner movement, which is representative of the Palestinian flag, will initiate the hunger strike led by the movement‘s leaders as follows:
1. Ammar Mardi. Representative of the Palestinian National Liberation Movement Fatah.
2. Salama Al-Qatawi. Representative of the Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas.
3. Zaid Bsissi. Representative of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ).
4. Walid Hanatsheh. Representative of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine.
5. Wajdi Gouda. Representative of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine.
6. Bassem Khandakji. Representative of the Palestinian People’s Party.
Mohammed Al–Tus, otherwise known as Abu Shadi, the most senior Palestinian prisoner, who has been detained since 1985, will join the strike if it is taken up by over two thousand Palestinian prisoners at the start of the holy month of Ramadan.
The National Emergency Committee urged all Palestinians to come together to support the symbolism of land and man by standing in solidarity with the prisoners who are engaging in a hunger strike.
The committee has urged Palestinians to join marches and evening vigils at 7:30 pm in the major cities to stand in solidarity with the rightful demand for full autonomy and a life of respectability.
