Nearly 65 Palestinian refugees announced died on Wednesday, 8 February 2023 in the massive earthquake and its aftershocks that struck the southeastern region of Turkey along the border with Syria.

Faed Mustafa, Palestine’s Ambassador to Turkey, confirmed that about 10 Palestinian refugees lost their lives in the major earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria, raising the death toll to 65.

Ambassador Mustafa added that the number of Palestinian victims is likely to rise in light of the difficulty of accessing information about Palestinians in northern Syria.

Three Palestinian refugee camps were affected by the massive earthquakes and these include Raml refugee camp in Latakia, Neirab camp, and Handrat in Aleppo; in addition to several other Palestinian communities in the northern Syrian governorates.

Turkish authorities say the death toll from the earthquakes centered in southeastern Turkey rose to 8574, bringing the total number of killed, including those in northern Syria, to more than 11,200.

The quake, one of the strongest to hit the region in more than 100 years, struck 23 kilometers (14.2 miles) east of Nurdagi, Gaziantep province, at a depth of 24.1 kilometers (14.9 miles), the US Geological Survey said.
